With the start of every new year comes the usual health kicks and New Year’s resolutions, unfortunately the start of 2021 coincided with lockdown 3.0, which has understandably been a blow for everyone.
Undeterred from this setback 53 Data Techniques team members took up the challenge of the “DT Turkey Burner”. The objective was simple – see how many active calories we could collectively burn over a two-week period.
Beginning on Blue Monday (18th January and running though to January 31st) the team set about their exercise of choice which included plenty of walking, running, strength and conditioning, yoga, rowing, Ski Ergo, indoor, road and MTB cycling, dancing and plenty of muddy dog walks with all calories logged and uploaded onto our knack software platform.
It’s fair to say conditions were slightly more challenging than the previous “1988 challenge”, which was held last spring during the first lockdown, with enough rain to float the ark, plenty of muddy trails and even a scattering of snow. It’s therefore all the more impressive that the Team managed to burn a monster 235,079 Calories, the equivalent of running roughly 2,938 miles. Forgetting current travel restrictions, that’s a trip to Athens and back.
Exercise and mental well-being are intrinsically linked, and the Data Techniques internal team challenges are a great way to keep everyone motivated and focused, especially during the current global backdrop. Huge congratulations to everyone who took part…watch this space for our spring challenge, which will be here in a flash.
